Altarum Institute and Partnership for Prevention Announce Strategic Alliance

ANN ARBOR, MI—Altarum Institute and Partnership for Prevention today announced that they have entered into a strategic alliance to advance national health promotion and disease prevention goals. Through this alliance, Partnership’s health initiatives will become part of a new Center for Prevention at Altarum.

Partnership’s initiatives include the following:

  • The Council on Aspirin for Prevention and Health, which promotes the use of aspirin to prevent heart disease and stroke (www.aspirinproject.org). The project builds on the recommendation from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force regarding aspirin’s effectiveness in preventing cardiovascular disease;
  • ActionToQuit, which aims to reduce tobacco-related death, disease, and medical costs through a daily news service and other educational means (www.actiontoquit.org);
  • National Coalition for Sexual Health, which promotes awareness and acceptance of sexual health as a core element of overall health and well-being (www.nationalcoalitionforsexualhealth.org);
  • National Chlamydia Coalition, which aims to increase national chlamydia screening rates through health care provider education, public awareness, research translation, and policy development (www.prevent.org/ncc); and
  • Supporting Community Health Advisor from HealthPartners Institute for Education and Research (HPIER), which fosters evidence-based community health promotion (www.communityhealthadvisor.org). As part of the transition, oversight of the National Commission on Prevention Priorities will be transferred to HPIER. HPIER is a long-time Partnership collaborator and developed rankings of clinical preventive services based on their health benefit and cost-effectiveness.

The creation of Altarum’s Center for Prevention gives the programs access to Altarum’s advanced capabilities in research, policy, and economic analysis; program management and evaluation; social media and strategic communications; Web design and digital services; and public health promotion and advocacy.

“Partnership’s initiatives are critical to improving health and align with Altarum’s long-term research and demonstration agenda,” said Linc Smith, President and CEO of Altarum. “We look forward to building on these successes and expanding the impact of prevention strategies and approaches on a national scale.”

Eduardo Sanchez, M.D., chair of Partnership’s Board of Directors, added, “Partnership’s alliance with Altarum concludes a long search to find the perfect partner to carry on Partnership’s legacy of advancing evidence-based health promotion policies and practices. We could not be more excited that Partnership’s programs will continue and prosper in Altarum’s Center for Prevention.”

The strategic alliance is now in effect and Partnership staff are part of Altarum's Center for Prevention. The many reports and resources that Partnership has developed since its establishment will continue to be available at www.prevent.org.
