Partnership for Prevention Highlights Successful Business Models for Health Care Reform With Release of Leading by Example Publication on Worksite Health
Washington -- Partnership for
Prevention today released “Leading by
Example: Leading Practices for Employee Health Management,” a publication
produced in collaboration with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce that details successful
approaches by CEOs of 18 companies—from giants like Caterpillar and Intel
Corporation, to firms like Buffalo Supply, a medical equipment supplier in
Colorado with fewer than two dozen employees—on programs and measures to
improve employee health and productivity.
“These
companies demonstrate a primary shift in focus from the cost of health care to
the total value of health,” said Partnership for Prevention President John M.
Clymer. “The CEOs who are featured in the publication along with senior level
executives of their organizations are spreading the word about how businesses
can gain bottom line benefits from investing to keep employees healthy.” Clymer
also acknowledged the support of U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas
J. Donohue and Gerald L. Shaheen, Group President at Caterpillar Inc. and Chairman
of the Board of Directors at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The
Leading by Example initiative was launched
by Partnership for Prevention in 2004. The first Leading by Example publication was released the following year and
featured 16 CEOs, and three state governors. A “Call to Action” signed by four
of the initial participants—along with the publication—was distributed to the
CEOs, COOs and human resources vice presidents of the Fortune 500, with the aim
of increasing awareness among executives about employee health management and its
role as a core business strategy.
The
new Leading by Example publication with
the U.S. Chamber—the world's largest business federation representing more than
three million businesses and organizations—includes real examples and
strategies from employers of every size sharing their approaches to managing
employee health and demonstrating the business case for investing in worksite
health.
