US Preventive Services Task Force Recommendation The USPSTF recommends routine vision screening with Snellen acuity testing for elderly persons. USPSTF Rating: "B" Recommendation. (Note: The USPSTF changed this recommendation in 2009, citing insufficient evidence. The rankings included services recommended through 2004.) FACTS: - About 25% of older people wear inappropriate visual correction.
- Vision correction can reduce hip fractures from falls1 and improve quality of life.
