US Preventive Services Task Force Recommendation Clinicians should routinely screen all sexually active women aged 25 years and younger, and other asymptomatic women at increased risk for infection, for chlamydial infection. FACTS: - Chlamydia is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted disease in the U.S., with 3 million new cases annually.
- Left untreated, Chlamydia will cause pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility in some women.
