US Preventive Services Task Force Recommendation The USPSTF is currently updating its recommendation for this service. In 1996, it recommended counseling parents of young children (ages 0-4) on measures to prevent injuries, including motor vehicle injuries, drowning, poisoning, fire/burns, and falls. FACTS: Each year, hundreds of children age 4 and younger die from preventable injuries: - More than 500 die in motor vehicle crashes
- More than 400 die as a result of accidental drowning
- About 200 die as a result of exposure to smoke and fire
